Nominator's project description

Professor Maier is a leading expert in optical and wireless sensor networks. He has made a series of widely recognized contributions to alleviating the Internet's bandwidth bottleneck in metro and access networks by bringing high-speed optical fiber networks ever closer to the end user and by integrating them with their wireless counterparts. During his stay in Germany, he intends to combine his expertise in the areas of optical fiber and wireless access-metro networks with his host’s expertise in haptic communication to research and propose enablers for the realization of the Tactile Internet.
